Perhaps you’ve noticed these newsletters have been less frequent of late, and there’s a good reason – we’re busy researching a book!
We’ve always known there’s mileage, so to speak, in combining beer and travel, and now major publishing house Bloomsbury has backed the idea, agreeing a deal for us to write an enriched guide to 30 destinations around the UK.
Of course, we’ll be pointing readers to the best places to drink beer, from brewery taprooms and modern bars to traditional pubs, but we’ll be doing more, highlighting tastings, food pairing and brewing experiences.
We’ll be interviewing local beer personalities to get their on-the-ground insights about the local scene, and we’ll also be suggesting things to valuably occupy your time when you’re not drinking beer, from sightseeing must-dos to seeking out curiosities that tell a story off the tourist track.
There will also be recommendations about where to stay. We want to tell you almost everything you’ll need to know to create a short break themed around beer. You’ll just have to get yourselves there.
In fact, that’s how British Beer Breaks began before a certain pandemic rudely intervened, as a tourism concept where we’d build bespoke trips for beer lovers and their friends, the beer curious and the beer sceptics, making sure everyone in the group has a good time.
As things have turned out, we hope you won’t mind doing that yourself, with the help of our book. Look out for more updates as our project comes together.
You’ve already played your part, by reading and subscribing to this newsletter. Your interest has given us the confidence to keep plugging away and helped persuade a top publisher to take us on. For a while, you’ll hear from us every fortnight, rather than weekly.
So what can we say but … cheers!
Phil and Kate
